Books I Don’t Get the Hype About

Hey guys!

Today’s post is about unpopular opinions and books that I don’t get the hype about. Recently, I’ve found so many more books that booktubers and reviewers I followed loved, but I generally disliked.

1.) Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

I felt no connection or chemistry with the characters. I hate insta-love!! It also got really annoying when to read lines like this.

2.) The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Choskby

Ugh, this book just didn’t do it for me. I felt like it was written for eight year olds and the whole time I was just pitying Charlie.

3.) Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard

hated the first book in the series. I got around to reading the rest of it and it became a total guilty pleasure, but the first book pissed me off so much. I wrote a mini rant on Goodreads because I was so mad.

4.) Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

I wanted to like this book so badly but I couldn’t stand the characters and I wasn’t surprised by the plot twist ending.

5.) The 100 by Kass Morgan

I liked the TV show so I decided to pick up a copy of this book. Bad idea! I hated everything about it.

6.) Gossip Girl by Celily Von Ziegesar

Yet another book I hated but TV show I loved. This book was ridiculuous to me. The characters were super hard to understand or relate to. It fell really flat.

7.) Divergent by Veronica Roth

I didn’t like this book. I was too bored to finish it.

8.) City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

Another one I was really bored in and DNF’d.

9.) The Program by Suzanne Young

I really want to try again with this book because I DNF’d it the first time. I really liked the idea, but I think the problem with it for me was that I didn’t get to see Sloane and James relationship develop, it’s sort of just shoved at you like “oh they’re in love!”

I’m noticing now how many of these were turned into TV shows, which I find really surprising. I’ve watched all of these shows and enjoyed them much more than the books. Anyways, that’s all for now. I’m getting a puppy tomorrow so my posting schedule might be thrown off for the weekend because I’m going to have to spend all my time making sure it doesn’t pee everywhere. I’m really excited, though.

  1. I completely agree with you on “Perks of Being a Wildflower”, “Pretty Little Liars”, and “Gossip Girl”. I think a lot of the reason why it’s hard to get a grasp on them is also from the time they were written. For instance, I was a fan of the Fear Street Series when I was a kid. I read them now and wonder what I saw in them. Much like “Gossip Girl” and “Pretty Little Liars”, it reminded me of my old Junior High days that I’d like to forget about back in the mid-2000s. Finally, someone else understands!

  2. I totally agree about city of bones, but for perks of being a wallflower I highly suggest watching the movie. The story is much better portrayed in the movie and it has Emma Watson and Logan Lerman in it as well. I would give it a try, the reason I enjoyed the book so much is because I read it right after watching the movie 🙂
