This was such a fun book! If you love pranks, this book is right up your alley.
Don’t Get Caught follows “Just Max,” as he likes to call himself. Nothing special, 2.5 GPA and no social life Max. Max has an obsession with heist movies, so throughout the book there are Heist Rule #1, Heist Rule #2, etc. When Max recieves an invite to the school’s notorious and mysertious Chaos Club. When he gets to the instructed location, he finds out that a few of his classmates got invites, too, one of them being his crush Ellie. If only he listened to Heist Rule #4: Be suspicious, because the whole thing turned out to be a prank on them.
Together, Max, Ellie, Adleta, Wheeler, and Malone decide to start their own secret society to get revenge on the Chaos Club: The Water Tower 5.
It’s mindless fun, but it’s fun all the same. This is definitely a good book for teenage boys to read. There are barely any marketed towards them nowadays in the YA genre. I myself am a teenage girl and I still enjoyed it, so I wouldn’t put it down to one gender (just like with anything!). This book has been compared a lot to The Breakfast Club, and I can totally see the similarities! It also reminds me a lot of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (the principals could be totally interchangable). If your a fan of either of these movies, you’d probably enjoy this book.
It was pretty unrealistic. I don’t know how any of these pranks would actually work, and the secret service would not get called in! I guess that’s all part of the fun of it, though.
