Wake the Hollow by Gaby Triana

Published by: Entangled Teen

Published on: August 2nd, 2016

Genre: YA Mystery/Thriller

SYNOPSIS:

Forget the ghosts, Mica. It’s real, live people you should fear.

Tragedy has brought Micaela Burgos back to her hometown of Sleepy Hollow. It’s been six years since she chose to live with her father in Miami instead of her eccentric mother. And now her mother is dead.

This town will suck you in and not let go.

Sleepy Hollow may be famous for its fabled headless horseman, but the town is real. So are its prejudices and hatred, targeting Mica’s family as outsiders. But ghostly voices carry on the wind, whispering that her mother’s death was based on hate…not an accident at all. With the help of two very different guys—who pull at her heart in very different ways—Micaela must awaken the hidden secret of Sleepy Hollow…before she meets her mother’s fate.

Find the answers.

Unless, of course, the answers find you first.

Review

☆☆☆☆ out of 5

“But that’s not how my life is turning out, and now I’m smack in the middle of a colossal mess.”

As I finish the last few pages of Wake the Hollow, I’m upset. Not because the ending was sad, but because I did not want it to be over.

Summary:

Wake the Hollow follows a girl named Micaela Burgos, who returns to her childhood hometown of Sleepy Hollow after the death of her mother. But as she returns and is reunited with her old friends, Michaela discovers some shocking secrets about her history–and her mother’s death. Was it really an accident as the police claim, or was it a murder? With the help of an old friend and a new one, Micaela will discover the truth about her mother’s death and the town where secrets don’t always stay buried.

Positives:

This book will hook you in with it’s exciting setting and plot. I’ve never read a book set in Sleepy Hollow, but the idea has always interested me. Gaby Triana does an excellent job of combining elements The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving and how the famous work has impacted the town.

I’m a huge fan of YA thrillers, and if you are too then this book is perfect for you. One of my favorite things in books are when you don’t expect the ending, and I did not expect the ending of Wake the Hollow. Around page 200, I couldn’t put it down. I didn’t know who to trust, and just when I thought someone was suspicious I was proven otherwise.

Negatives:

There’s not much I can say for this section! I found the beginning to be slow, and it did take me a little while to get into the book. But once I did, I never wanted to leave Sleep Hollow.

Conclusion:

Fans of murder mysteries need this book in their hands, now! Wake the Hollow was such an unexpected, thrilling ride.

{Disclaimer: I recieved a free copy of the book from Entangled Teen. This is no way affected my opinion of the book.}
